Red Canyon Project
Project Summary
The Red Canyon Project is located in southeast Utah’s White Canyon Uranium District. The Red Canyon project is located 95 kilometers southeast of Hanksville. The Red Canyon Project consists of 160 mining claims and three state mining leases covering six formerly producing mines, two delineated or partially delineated uranium deposits, and two high potential exploration areas. The mines are known as the Blue Lizard, Saddle, Giveaway, White Canyon #1, Blind Luck, and Yankee Girl. The Lucky claims cover a uranium deposit drilled by Minatome in the late 1970’s and – early 1980’s. The project’s covers over 2500 acres within a 17 kilometer by 10 kilometer area.
Uranium deposits were mined in the White Canyon District from the late 1940’s to the late 1980’s, mainly by independent miners. Of the approximately 130 uranium mines in the area the most significant mines are the Happy Jack and Radium King, which together produced more than 3.8 Million lbs U3O8. The Radium King mine is located in the centre of the Red Canyon Project area between the Yankee Girl and Sir Snapper claims. Most historic producers in the area were developed after prospecting along exposed sections of the target horizon revealed mineralization in channels.
The acquisition of former uranium producing mines in the White Canyon area is a step in Trigon’s plan to establish a portfolio of mines in the Colorado Plateau. The Company aims to develop significant uranium resources by re-entering historical Colorado Plateau mines with the intention of following previously defined ore zones and exploring for extensions of these zones on land contiguous to the old mines. Trigon’s mining engineers are currently establishing mining plans for White Canyon under the leadership of Tom Buchholz, Senior Mining Engineer and manager of Trigon’s Golden, Colorado office.
It is intended that the ore from these mines be milled at one of two mills located in the State of Utah. Denison Mines Corp. has recently published an ore buying schedule in respect of its Blanding mill. It is also expected that Uranium One will commence milling at the Shootaring Canyon mill near Ticaboo, Utah. Trigon expects that economic ore buying and custom milling schedules from the perspective of miners of smaller Colorado Plateau mines will be established over time as the uranium cycle continues.
